NETBALL: Victor Harbor has scored three premierships in the Great Southern Netball Association grand finals at the weekend.
They took out the trophies in League, Senior 2 and Inter 2.
The following are the results:
11 & Under Div 3 – Myponga 17 d Willunga 4
Myponga started off the game very well being up by five goals in the first quarter. It was an excellent game by Myponga’s GD, Kayla Nowacki. Willunga made a lot of changes at half time but with Myponga players playing good netball, could not get in front and they won the game 17 to 4.
11 & Under Div 2 – Willunga 11 d Mount Compass 5
Slow starting game for Willunga and Compass started strongly. Willunga picked up in the second half ending the match on top.
11 & Under Div 1 – McLaren Vale 28 d Strathalbyn 6
A fabulous win to an undefeated McLaren Vale team. A total team commitment resulted in a resounding win. Congratulations to Strath for making the finals.
13 & Under Div 3 – Yankalilla 20 d Victor Harbor 9
A great team effort by the little Tigers. They came out firing and scored 4 goals to Victor’s 2 goals. Victor Harbor were forced to make changes and tried hard all game, but they were no match for Yankalilla’s speed and great team work. Yankalilla continued to lead throughout the match and take home the premiership by 11 goals.
13 & Under Div 2 – Port Elliot 25 d McLaren Vale 22
Closely contested game with both teams applying defensive pressure all over the court. Both teams’ goalies shot well under pressure consistently applied by defenders. The game was well played and umpired with all players giving their best in an exciting game. Well done all.
13 & Under Div 1 – Langhorne Creek 26 d Victor Harbor 17
The Creek team came out determined today, knowing that the Victor team have caused them pain in the past.
Creek won the 1st quarter by 5 goals. Rani and Stela in goals didn’t let the nerves get to their game. Victor
came back in the 2nd quarter and it was even. They say in the third quarter is the premiership quarter and Creek
increased their lead to 10 goals. The Creeks’s defence line held the Victor shooters well. Tiana kept steady at C all
game. Well done to Victor, they stuck it out all game, winning the last quarter.
Inter 5 – Willunga 37 d Victor Harbor 36
A very exciting game with the lead changing many times. Willunga got a good start and lead by 1 goal at the first break, however Victor edged in front in the 2nd quarter with scores even at half time. Willunga went on to win the 3rd quarter by 1 goal and held on strongly playing possession netball to win by 1-goal.
Inter 4 – Langhorne Creek 46 d Willunga 31
This was a wonderful finale to a great year. The Creeks’s strong defence gave them a good lead to start with, before Willunga came out strongly. A third quarter downpour didn’t deter the Creek girls and they played on to be convincing winners. Well done to everyone. It was a real team effort with everyone contributing enormously.
Inter 3 – Willunga 28 d Victor Harbor 27
Victor were always going to be tough opponents after being on top after home and away games. Willunga were up for the challenge with strong defence. Scores were even at half time. Shooters both ends were very accurate, but Willunga’s defence started to dominate and ensured the ball was rebounded back for Willunga to take out the Grand Final by 1-goal.
Inter 2 – Victor Harbor 32 d Willunga 31
A magnificent game by both teams, such an even game all day. Victor started strongly, but Willunga came back as they always do. It came down to the wire with the defenders having a battle at both ends. Victor got up by 1 goal in the dying seconds. Well done to all girls.
Inter 1 – Willunga 40 d Langhorne Creek 38
This was a high intensity game. Both teams came out and were determined to put in a strong performance. Creeks’s defensive pressure proved too good in the 1st quarter. To Willunga’s credit they held themselves together. Both shooters shot extremely well, and it made for a cracking game. The last few minutes were out of this world and Willunga came out with the win.
Senior 7 – Goolwa 32 d McLaren Vale 31
What a tight game played by both teams. Goolwa lost their GD in the first 5 mins., so re-adjusting the team they were put in overdrive. Goolwa’s defenders were awesome as was the accurate shooting by their goalies. Vale fought to the end and lucky Goolwa were up by six goals as the young guns from Vale in the last quarter were too quick for Goolwa’s defenders. Goolwa finished back to back winners.
Senior 6 – Myponga 39 d McLaren Vale 29
McLaren Vale came out determined to get back to back premierships. Myponga were more determined to take the flag this year. Myponga started with a slight lead going into the second quarter. Vale girls fought back closing the gap. Myponga defence tightened up in the last half giving them a strong win. Well done to both teams.
Senior 5 – Willunga 34 d McLaren Vale 30
Hard fought game by two teams that both wanted the win. Willunga coming home with the win.
Senior 4 – Myponga 44 d McLaren Vale 33
Great game of four quarters of quality netball by both teams.
Senior 3 – McLaren Vale 45 d Willunga 27
Great game played in great spirit in all conditions. Vale were too strong today.
Senior 2 – Victor Harbor 34 d McLaren Vale 30
In an outstanding game of sportsmanship and skills, Victor managed to stay off several challenges to win by 4-goals. In a game where weather played a part, both teams used the conditions to their advantage.
League – Victor Harbor 53 d Goolwa 38
In windy conditions a fast-high standard game began with Goolwa going up early, but slowly but surely Victor took control with strong intercepts by Victor’s defence. Both shooters struggled in the wind going goal for goal. At half time the scores were Victor 25-21 goals with the game in the balance. In the third quarter Goolwa came out hard at Victor but once again Victor’s defence held strong and passing by Victor down the court was fast and damaging. The last quarter was scrappy with a lot of contact with Goolwa fighting on, but Victor finished on well to win by 15 goals. In conclusion a great final by two very skilful teams.
