The service was formally launched in late April 2018 by founder/owner Carolyn Jeffrey who has almost 30 years’ experience in the media industry, including 15 years at the helm of the local newspaper in Victor Harbor.
Victor Harbor News aims to drill down into local news stories from a community perspective and to provide a vehicle to lobby on behalf of the issues that matter to Victor Harbor’s people. As well it will provide the opportunity for local community and sporting organisations to promote their activities and recognise the work of their members and supporters most of whom are volunteers.
Initially the news service will have just one person in the operation but, with community support, this could grow.
“I want the people of Victor Harbor to feel that this is their service,” Carolyn says.
There may even be opportunities for some community ownership of the service in the future, if it proves successful.
“I encourage the local community to become involved through contributing news, information, photographs and ideas,” Carolyn said.
The Victor Harbor News website is updated frequently as information and news stories are provided. A weekly news summary is provided FREE to subscribers via email with links to the website where the information will be published.
“We will also have significant feeds and connections with social media such as Facebook and Instagram.
“I recognise that many in our community are not yet comfortable with online news services and social media, so I’m hoping to also be able to offer some community training opportunities to ensure, as a community, we can all be more connected.”
Victor Harbor News has a range of policies in place which we encourage our website and service users to read through. They include:
